It identifies the former Belmont SAVE OUR site as the space for a new Narragansett Library. In 2016, 67.9% of voters voted "YES" for a bond to move the Library to this space. Prior to that vote, the Town of Narragansett, via legal public notice from the Clerk of the Board of Canvassers, the Town Solicitor, and the Bond Counsel, specified this "former Belmont Supermarket.ground floor and second floor" site for the bond. This is what our community voted for. LIBRARY RE PIER LIQUORS: Concerns have been raised regarding the location of the Pier Liquor store when the Maury Loontjens (Narragansett) Library moves to its new location. Here are the facts: At no time have the supporting organizations and individuals of the Library stated or intended to impinge on Pier Liquor's space. Many Library supporters are friends with the staff and regularly shop there. Library supporters have no desire to damage Pier Liquor's business. Once again, we are asking for your signature on a petition to have the initiative on the November ballot. The petition is not a vote. It is a means of getting an issue on the ballot. This is due process, under our Town charter. Several months ago, Pier Liquors sought to buy portions of the former Belmont site that was acquired for the Library. Now, they offer to drop Volunteers are outside the Narragansett Library every weekday from 10-4, with safety measures in place, to answer questions and ask for your signature. Volunteers will also be at the site of the former Belmont space on Saturday and Sunday, from 10-2.
