RHODE ISLAND COMMUNITY EDUCATION SERIES For those caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or another dementia The following programs will take place in-person at the Beechwood Center for Life Enrichment, 44 Beach Street, North Kingstown, RI 02852 HEALTHY LIVING FOR YOUR BRAIN & BODY | July 13 from 5:30-7 PM Lifestyle choices impact the aging process. Learn about important information and research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. Use hands-on tools to develop a plan for healthy aging. UNDERSTANDING ALZHEIMER'S AND DEMENTIA | July 20 from 5:30-7 PM Join us to learn about the impact of Alzheimer's; the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia: stages and risk factors: current research and treatments available for some symptoms; and Alzheimer's Association resources. CAREGIVER WELLNESS | July 27 from 5:30-7 PM This workshop is intended to help both family caregivers and professional caregivers. Caregiving is a demanding task, in which self is "slowly given away." Identify the signs and symptoms of stress, and learn strategies for preventing and coping with the stress of caregiving. UNDERSTANDING DEMENTIA-RELATED BEHAVIORS AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES | August 3 from 5:30-7 PM Explore communication changes due to dementia and the skills needed to successfully connect and communicate throughout the disease process.
