Harrington serves as the National Director of the Pontifical Missions Societies in the United States, having been appointed in April 2021 by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. The Pontifical Mission Societies includes the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Holy Childhood Association, the Society of St. Peter Apostle, and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. The Societies are under the Direction of Pope Francis and support missionary work, foster prayer and awareness, and combat poverty, disease, and injustice. Monsignor Harrington was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn in 2001. He was appointed Vicar for Communications for the Diocese of Brooklyn in 2006. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing the diocesan public information office, government affairs and public policy office, NET, the Diocese of Brooklyn cable TV station, and the Diocesan newspaper, The Tablet. He was appointed Rector of the Co-Cathedral of Saint Joseph in 2008. In 2009, he was named president and chairman of the DeSales Media Group, the communications arm of the Diocese. Monsignor graduated with honors from St. John's University with a degree in philosophy and holds a Master of Divinity degree from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington, New York and a Master of Business Administration from New York University's Stern School of Business. He is the recipient of the St. Thomas More Award from the Catholic Lawyers Guild and the Father Mychal Judge Award from the Great Irish Fair in Brooklyn.
